The January Declaration
The January Declaration states that we should work together to create a North East that is good for everyone; treat everyone in the region with dignity regardless of economic status; and press for a fair deal from Government for the region.
The Declaration was published as a letter in The Journal on 11th January 2011. It was signed by a number of prominent people from the North East, including individuals from all the major political parties. The full text of the Declaration forms Annex A.
The Declaration has attracted much interest and there are now 275 signatories drawn from many walks of life. Although some signatories live in Teesside, most are from Northumberland, Tyne and Wear, or Durham. This is perhaps a consequence of the fact that the seven people who developed the January Declaration live in the northern part of the region.
