Community-led housing and health seminar
July 15, 2019 @ 9:30 am - 1:30 pm
The relationship between planning and housing, and physical and mental health is well documented in the literature, making the link between improved housing provisions and increased wellbeing and equality. However, in the UK we continue to see a decline in both the quality and quantity of housing. Community-led housing presents an alternative to speculative and profit driven models of housing delivery and is commonly associated with high levels of social cohesion and environmentally focused design. Advocates of community-led housing identify a range of benefits that may be gained through common-ownership or the collective governance of housing assets including increased affordability, reduced isolation and improved quality of life. However, there is limited literature that systematically investigates the connection between health and community-led housing. The aim of this project is to examine evidence on the relationship between these two subject areas and to identify where future research may make a valuable contribution.
During this seminar we want to hear the thoughts and reflections of people working or involved in community-led housing, housing and health sectors. Discussions around the emergent findings from this review will contribute towards shaping the final project report.
