After years of high-profile collapses, regulatory failure and repeated mis-selling, public trust in corporate responsibility is at an all time low. Parliamentary select committees have been important in exposing corporate mismanagement as a public interest issue but we need stronger remedies.

Social licensing has been used around the world to commit mining and oil companies to social and environmental obligations. Could this idea be adapted in the UK, ensuring that businesses benefit the local economy?
