Poverty and social security: where next?

Poverty and social security: where next? will discuss the agenda for working age social security in the new parliament, following the Conservative Party’s landslide victory. The meeting will include the presentation of recommendations from the Fabian Society’s pre-election report Where Next? Reforming social security over the next 10 years.

  • Did Labour get it right on social security in the party’s 2019 manifesto?
  • What are the prospects for poverty and welfare payments under the new Conservative government?
  • What should be the left’s agenda for social security over the next decade?

Speakers include:

  • Margaret Greenwood MP, shadow secretary of state for work and pensions
  • Stephen Timms MP, chair, work and pensions select committee
  • Andrew Harrop, general secretary, Fabian Society
  • Kate Green MP (chair)

The meeting marks the conclusion of a year-long project supported by Age UK, the Children’s Society, Crisis, JRF and the TUC.
